About Tiarra

Dear Reader,
I started this blog because I realized I don’t write often. I should, though. I find that I think about things a lot, and I talk to myself (don’t tell!), but I never articulate things on paper, even though I know that’s what helps me process things best.
Let’s get right into it. I want to give you some basic info so you’ll know a little about me and what to expect (or not):
·         I love commas: I used to get in trouble all the time when writing papers in grades K-12, but I can’t help it! My thoughts are not short and choppy; they’re long and flowing from one thing to the next. So, get used to it; I like commas! And semi-colons, too.

·         I like to begin entries with “So…”: Why? Because most of the time when I sit down to write, I’m beginning in the middle of a thought. I’m one of those people who have a million things on their mind at all times. If I sit down to unload it on paper, I’m diving right in the middle of those thoughts and pulling you along with me.

·         What’s Love Got To Do With It?: I’m about as inexperienced as you can get when it comes to relationships, I admit that. But I still feel like I know a lot about what goes on in the heads of men and women when it comes to relationships. It sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? I find I have a unique ability to reach people, connect with them, and understand them. Or perhaps it’s not so much ability, but a desire to reach and connect to people, and that is what helps me to understand. Speaking of understanding, I understand that I am officially rambling right now. Back to the point of this bullet.

What’s love got to do with it? Everything, that’s what. People often complain about the amount of time and energy spent pondering love and relationships. But when you come right down to it, that is what shapes our lives! Being in love or a relationship with someone evokes so many other emotions, it’s ridiculous and confusing. And that is precisely why we talk about it so much. So yes, I will be discussing love and relationships.

·         I am militant: Yes, I whole-heartedly admit that I am militant when it comes to representation and treatment of Black people. I am proud of my Black and Dominican heritage, what can I say! I want to make sure we’re being represented properly, and I’m always on the hunt to shoot down stereotypes, misrepresentations, and skewed thinking in and outside of my race(s).

·         I natural hair: As a Black woman living in America, growing and learning about my natural hair is always is adventure. Still a newbie (07/17/10), but I am loving every moment =)

·         I’m a holy roller: I’ve been saved since I was 14 years old. Actually (as many church kids can attest) I got saved several times growing up. But that last time? God grabbed a hold of me, and I haven’t let go of Him since. Each and every day of my life, I am working to please Him, and allow God to use me and make me better! I love you Jesus! Yes ya’ll, I take my beliefs very seriously.

Well, that’s all I can think of for now. Writing is hard work!

Until next time,

~Tiarra
