Why I’m Converting To Pescatarianism

Yes, you read that right. No, it is not a religion. And no, it may not even be an actual word. But that is beside the point. Yesterday afternoon, I was sitting on a chair in my parent’s kitchen after eating a meal that had me feeling sluggish and heavy, and I saw that one of my favorite YouTube natural hair gurus had posted a video about her diet. I clicked the button, watched the video, and it hit me like a brick-
I have GOT to change some of my lifestyle habits.
I’m not kidding. It was like the girl was speaking directly to me, and it made me do some real thinking. You see, when it comes to diet and exercise habits, I have a few major things going against me:
1.)    My Genetics- Skinny don’t run in my family, but cholesterol, diabetes, high blood pressure do.
2.)    My Diet- I’m Black and Dominican. Both of these cultures have some not-so-stellar eating habits.
3.)    My Exercise Habits- More like lack thereof. I just can’t seem to lock the discipline to exercise.
You do the math. I think the only things saving me from looking like Oprah when she played Sofia, are my age, my current status as a poverty-stricken college student, and the grace of God. For real.
And so, I am embarking on a new journey. What, you might ask?
Pescatarian= No more chicken, beef, or pork for me. Only seafood, and vegetarian foods.
How long will I keep this up? I don’t know. But I’m excited. The weirdest thing happened when I made up my mind to do it. No sooner had I looked in the mirror and declared myself a pescatarian, than my stomach started to roll. I mean…serious wild bowels. It felt like my body was trying to liberate itself from all the meat and other junk I had been putting into it. And this morning when I woke up, I felt different. Got on the scale and realized 4 pounds had disappeared.
I think this new journey will be good for me =)
